Potovalni vodič po Veroni / Verona travel guide (Slo&Eng)

14 July 2019

Čeprav je objava zelo obširna obljubim, da je vredna branja :) Če vas zanima kje prenočiti, kaj si ogledati in kje dobro jesti vas vabim k nadaljnjem branju.

Oh Verona, beautiful Verona. I wanted to visit this amazing city for such a long time, ever since I watched a movie named Letters to Juliet. I finally decided to go at the beginning of May and because I stayed there for a couple of days and discovered a whole city I wanted to share with you my travel guide. I hope that you will find this post useful. If you want to know where to stay, what to see and where to eat, keep reading. I promise this will be a very helpful post and that it is worth reading if you want to visit Verona.

KJE PRENOČITI / WHERE TO STAY

Vsekakor vam priporočam Borgo dei Tigli Mood Apartment - apartma v katerem sva bivala s fantom, rezervirala pa sva ga preko spletne strani Booking.

I definitely recommend Borgo dei Tigli Mood Apartment where my boyfriend and I stayed for 4 days. We booked it through booking.com and you can find all about it here. This apartment is located really close to the city centre, only 5 minutes walking distance. But I rather chose an apartment that's not totally central because of the less noise. What I liked the most about this apartment was the location, price, decoration, furniture, balcony view, comfort and the kindness of the owner. If you want to book this apartment I suggest you read my review on Booking. I think you will not find a better apartment than this one.

KAJ SI OGLEDATI V VERONI / WHAT TO SEE IN VERONA

Velikokrat v areni prirejajo razne koncerte in dogodke.

Verona offers so many interesting sights that it's very hard to see everything in a short period of time, despite the fact that the city is not very big. I would recommend everyone to do at least three days for sightseeing. Most of the attractions listed below are located in the very centre of Verona, which is great for those do not like to walk much. I've written down the ones that I liked most, but there are certainly more sights to see. Click here for a complete list of what to see in Verona.

The most famous sight is Juliet's house/balcony. I was the most excited about seeing it, but was left disappointed by the abnormal crowd, which made it impossible to even move normally around the house. The balcony itself is not anything special. Seeing it from the outside is free, you only have to pay the entrance fee if you want to see the house from inside.

Arena Verona will give you the feeling that you are in the Roman Empire. This amphitheatre is smaller than the one in Rome, but it is definitely worth a visit. There are a lot of walking paths around the Arena along with a beautiful park (Piazza Bra) and a number of (expensive) cafes and restaurants. The arena is internationally famous for hosting various concerts and events.

Castelvecchio Castle is a wonderful example of Gothic architecture. At sunset is so nice to walk on the bridge of the castle and observe the Adige river flowing through Verona. You can also see the Castelvecchio Museum, but we did not have time for that.

Torre dei Lamberti is a viewing tower, from which you can see almost the whole Verona. You must pay an entry fee which includes a tour of the gallery under the tower (full name: Galleria d'Arte Moderna Achille Forti). I liked it very much and I'm glad it was included in the price.

The Ponte Pietra Bridge decorates the number of postcards that you can buy in Verona. It links one side of Verona to the other, and the river Adige flows under it. You can make beautiful photos of this bridge.

Porta Borsari is an ancient Roman gate which was the main entrance to Verona in Roman times. Behind the gate is a wide street called Corso Porta Borsari which is full of expensive boutique shops and restaurants.

Piazza delle Erbe is the most famous square, located in the centre of Verona. Close by is the Piazza delle Erbe fountain, the Palazzo Maffei Palace, Casa dei Mercanti and Torre dei Lamberti (described above) from which all of these buildings can be seen. At the market, you can find stalls with Italian food, such as pasta and spices, as well as clothes, fruit, souvenirs and much more.

Castel San Pietro is unlike Castelvecchio Castle located a few minutes walk from the centre and is like most castles on a hill. The path to the castle is steep and narrow, but surrounded by small picturesque cottages. On the way up is also a great place - Re Teodorico, from which you have the most beautiful view of Verona.

Arco dei Gavi is a beautiful ancient structure in Verona, located just a short walk from the centre and is surrounded by Castelvecchio Castle. A few steps away from this you have a wonderful view of the river Adige and the bridge of the castle.

Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore, Piazza dei Signori, Santa Maria Antica, Verona Cathedral, Porta Leoni, Gardello tower, Scaliger Tombs are all worth a visit :) I recommend that you simply walk through the city and get lost. While walking through Verona we saw many interesting buildings, ruins and fountains, which I do not know how they are called, but that is the charm of exploring - to find something interesting along the way.

KJE DOBRO JESTI / WHERE TO EAT

Raje uporabite tripadvisor in poglejte katere restavracije v vaši bližini so najbolje ocenjene.

The real question is: "Where not to eat?" because food is very good everywhere. I recommend a restaurant in the centre of Verona, called Little Italy (click) for Neapolitan pizza and delicious spaghetti carbonara. The ambience of this place is very pleasant because the restaurant is hidden from the crowd and noise since it is located in a small, narrow alley. For the best Greek salad, pizza with truffles and a great view of Arena I recommend Pepperino Verona (click). It is best to sit outside because the view is really unique. For tasty burgers, I recommend Oblo comfort food (click). For the most delicious breakfast/brunch, I recommend Elk Bakery (click) and Bakery house (click). For a tasty Aperol spritz and an exceptional view of Verona, I recommend Cafe Re Teodorico (click).

Tip: Avoid cafes and restaurants near attractions like Arena Verona and the Piazza delle Erbe, because the food at these restaurants is high-priced but not that tasty. For a dessert near the Arena, we paid 7 euro. I recommend using TripAdvisor to see which restaurants close to you are the best. One more tip that I would give to you is to pick a restaurant that is crowded because usually, this means that the food is good there.
